Manchester has always been a vibrant and thriving metropolis and this week high-end brand Chanel will be hosting its annual Métiers d’Art show in the heart of the city. Historically, Manchester was labelled ‘Cottonopolis’ due to the emergence of the Industrial Revolution which started right here in this bold city. The music, the fashion and the history of this fair municipal has attracted the luxury, long established trademark, Chanel to hold their couture fashion show on Thomas Street in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter. The brand has been quoted as saying, “CHANEL has chosen to present the 2023/24 Métiers d’art show in Manchester, one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture and an avant-garde one, whose bands, spanning all genres, have changed the history of music.”
Pride is resonating through the city and the stars are out in full bloom, anticipating this glorious and prestigious spectacle. A List celebrities such as Kristen Stewart, Margot Robbie, Timothee Chalamet and US Vogue editor, Anna Wintour are amongst the high profile personalities expected to secure front row seats against the backdrop of art work created by legendary Mancunian Peter Saville, with live DJ’s spinning the iconic music of New Order. What an accolade!
Manchester has had an evolving identity and this week the world will witness Chanel’s vision through a kaleidoscope of everything Mancunian. The extra special montage plays homage to everything we love about this city – from the iconic Hacienda, the gritty streets, the fashion, the swag, the music, the football and the architecture. It features vintage Chanel alongside the current couture and concludes with the famous interlinking Chanel ‘C’s’ striped in black and yellow which symbolise the busy working bee that Manchester has adopted as it’s trademark as well as those industrial stripes which featured heavily in the lifetime of Manchester’s archetypal nightclub, The Hacienda.
